HOUSTON, TX- Reports continue to file in that NASA has received the first ever recorded message from beings on another planet. Though mum on the details, officials did confirm that a communication was received to the Houston office shortly after 4am CST on December 1st 2054.
“We did receive a transmission,” one official speaking on the condition of anonymity commented. “As of right now, it’s not clear what it is.”
Debate continues to rage in the scientific community over the source and origin of this mysterious audio recording. Earlier today, a two-minute clip of what is reported to be a 15-minute transmission of some kind was released to the media, who began playing it over the airwaves.
Naturally, speculation only grew as more people heard the recording.
In an attempt to squash what is on the verge of hysteria, White House officials released a formal statement to the media essentially blaming the message on a technical malfunction.
“Contrary to reports, we do not believe the transmission is the result of paranormal phenomena,” the statement read. “We’re currently looking at what kind of mechanical failure may have caused us to receive this transmission.”
Paranormal theorists from all over the world have been lining up in droves to get their hands on the full audio recording, but there are currently no plans to release the complete version to the public.
“We’re not sure how the audio clip got out,” said the NASA spokesperson. “That is being investigated as well.”
The recording, which cannot be immediately attributed to any routine noises or mechanical workings, may simply be at the center of a large hoax effort by an unknown person. Dave Wembley, a noted cultural psychologist and paranormal researcher, believes that is what may be occurring here.
“This is the exact method used by many hoaxsters in the past,” Wembley said. “Therefore, there isn’t much reason to believe this is any different.”
Still, the prospect of paranormal communication is a hot topic filled with controversy. Social networking sites are reporting increased traffic across servers both in the United States and elsewhere. In some cases, the traffic volume is even slowing down site performance.
NASA is also urging people to remain calm and says that details regarding the recording will not be made available for some time.
“We’re not going to comment further until there is something to report,” the spoksperson said.
Regardless, speculation continues in the court of public opinion.
